Mercedes-Benz is getting ready to premiere their very first hybrid plug-in model at the Paris Motor Show this October, but before the big reveal happens, we'd like to take a moment to discuss what we know about the hybrid so far. Known as the Mercedes S550 Plug-In Hybrid, the luxury automaker's latest creation comes equipped with a gasoline engine and electric motor combo in an effort to boost fuel economy and stand as an eco-friendly alternative to standard gasoline engine cars on the market. Scheduled to arrive at dealerships in spring 2015, the model will be the first of many hybrids developed by Mercedes, who has plans to expand the lineup further following its release.
The all-new 2015 Mercedes S550 Plug-In Hybrid in Springfield will feature a 3.0L twin-turbocharged V-6 engine, producing 328 horsepower and 351 lb.-ft. of torque, along with an electric motor, delivering 107 horsepower and 251 lb.-ft. of torque. Receiving power from an 8.7kw/h lithium-ion battery, the electric motor will take 2.5 hours to charge and will be able to be used by itself or in conjunction with the gas engine via the car's four modes: hybrid, charge, e-mode and e-save. The hybrid will also have the power to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 5.2 seconds and have a zero-emissions range of 20.5 miles in e-mode - a respectable number.
Look out for the incoming 2015 Mercedes S550 Plug-In Hybrid in Springfield at Elite Mercedes in spring of 2015 and take one for a test-drive!
