Autonomous cars are quickly becoming the next big thing in the automotive industry and the latest brand to join the craze is none other than German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz. At this year's International Consumer Electronics Show, the manufacturer debuted their all-new self-driving research car: the F 015 Luxury in Motion. Futuristic in appearance, the ultramodern, innovative sedan introduced attendees to Mercedes’ vision of autonomous cars and the future of technology.
Luxury in Motion is a vehicle that does away with conventional driving, promoting autonomy and luxury. Mercedes took many factors into consideration when designing the model, including the growing population of some of the world's largest cities. They determined private space would be one of the most sought-after luxuries in the future and decided to put it at the center of the research car's development. To carry out this theme, they outfitted the car with four rotating chairs built for relaxation. They can each be faced toward each other to create a lounge area or turned around for privacy. Additionally, passengers will be able to interact with the car from their seats through eye-tracking, gestures and the use of interactive touchscreens. Six display screens integrated into the instrument panel will keep the passengers continuously in tune with the car and the outside world throughout all travels.
The Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion is currently being used solely for research and is not set to go into production. For a closer glance at the space-age model, view the introduction video below.
