Mercedes has plans to rapidly expand their hybrid lineup by adding 10 new plug-in models to the roster by 2017. The company estimates a new model will debut around every four months in order to stay in line with their goal. Additionally, Mercedes will be replacing their "plug-in hybrid" branding with the letter "e" on all upcoming plug-in hybrid models.
One of the first plug-ins to be released as a part of Mercedes' new plan will be the C350e. Arriving this fall, the model will come with a 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine and a 60kW electric motor. Altogether they will produce 275 horsepower and help deliver an EPA-estimated 112 mpg. The 2016 S550e (also debuting this fall) will wear the new "e" badging, along with the brand's upcoming first-ever plug-in crossover, the GLE. Mercedes' Concept V-ision e van, which was unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show, could also go into production; however, no official confirmation has been made.
Out of the ten plug-in hybrids to make a splash on the market, we have yet to find out which models will be released in the U.S. outside of the 2016 S550e and C350e.
