Mercedes-Benz to Discontinue Metris Van Late in 2023

The Mercedes-Benz has decided to stop selling the Metris van coming up next year. The fact that this vehicle is no longer being sold may also mean that the similar Sprinter may stop being sold as well.

Affairs at Mercedes-Benz

The rumor is that the four-cylinder Sprinter will die along with the Metris minivan. It may be that the Sprinter's powered by diesel may continue to go on. The van has been struggling because its passenger and cargo versions of the van haven't managed to get very far within the market in the United States. This is likely either because the Sprinter has done better or other vehicles from other companies have just been more economical.

Metris tends to have a price tag of more than $35,000, whereas other similar vans and vehicles from many other companies often beat that price. Plus, this is only for the entry-level Metris with the two seats and the cargo space.

The Metris can balloon in price with more features, and the vehicle just hasn't picked up a lot of fans even with its potential eight seats. There also was an even larger vehicle called the Weekender or Getaway that was related that was a pop-top camper that never got much play due to what happened to the Metris.

It's likely that in the future, Mercedes-Benz may try adding more luxury systems to improve the sales of whatever comes after Metris, such as fold-flat seats in the third row or a rear entertainment system to help keep any children riding in the back occupied with whatever entertainment options you desire.

Still, Mercedes-Benz likely has more in store of a similar variety. For example, there's the battery-electric vehicle called the printer that's likely to become part of the van lineup within the full-size category at some point in the future. The rumor is also that Benz is looking to put out similar models in 2023 with the four-cylinder diesel type.
