The automotive industry is continuously searching for new ways to cut down on CO2 emissions and as of recently many carmakers have been leaning toward hybrid vehicles to get the job done. Mercedes-Benz is one brand that is working hard to cut down its carbon footprint and in order to tackle this problem the company recently announced plans to develop a hybrid AMG model by 2020.
As Mercedes' one and only high-performance sub brand, it's not going to be easy for the automaker to convince fans that a hybrid vehicle is the way to go. According to Mercedes-Benz Research and Development head honcho Thomas Weber, customers are set on purchasing "the sportiest performance option available," which will make a hybrid model a tough sell. However, with the increasing need to reduce fuel consumption across all brands in the industry, Mercedes is ready to unleash a hybrid AMG model on the market by 2020 and hopes car enthusiasts will be open to the vehicle once that time rolls around. The use of hybrid technology in future Mercedes-AMG cars and other vehicles throughout the brand's lineup could be incredibly beneficial in the long run and lead to the production of greater models.
