With the crossover and SUV market picking up steam across the world, many manufacturers are thinking about developing new models for the segments. Mercedes is one of several brands considering an addition to their CUV/SUV lineup and there is a chance the vehicle could debut as a convertible. Mercedes-Benz Türk President and CEO Wolf-Dieter Kurz recently spoke about the possible model to Australian website CarAdvice and the obstacles it could face.

According to Kurz, Mercedes is looking to find a market for a convertible SUV. Because the convertible is a "slim niche" in the SUV segment, he admits it will be challenging for Mercedes to release such a vehicle. Out of all the markets, Kurz said China would be the hardest one to win over with the new model. Luxury SUVs are incredibly popular in the country, but convertibles are not top-selling vehicles. In addition to this, Mercedes has not offered many convertible SUVs in the past, making it difficult to predict how a new model would do on the market. A convertible G-Class model had a good run in the segment for 34 years but was laid to rest in 2013, putting an end to Mercedes' convertible SUV legacy.

Right now, Mercedes has yet to make a decision about the future of convertible SUVs in their lineup, but we hope to receive news soon. While you wait for details, come down to Elite Mercedes today and take a look at our roster of sleek, high-end cars and SUVs.
