The electric vehicle class continues to expand as automakers scramble to jump onboard of the electric car craze and Mercedes-Benz is the latest brand to hitch a ride. The luxury car manufacturer, who has developed a limited number of EVs in the past, is currently in the process of creating a high-range electric model that will compete against heavy hitters in the EV segment.

News about Mercedes-Benz's foray into electric cars comes straight from the brand’s chief of development, Thomas Weber. In a recent interview, Weber confirmed that Mercedes-Benz is developing an all-new electric car that will deliver a driving range of 228-311 miles. He also revealed that the model would feature a new powertrain that would fall in line with the company's architecture, which means additional electric models could arrive in the future.

With a top driving range of 311 miles, the incoming electric car will go head-to-head with some of the most popular EVs on the market today. As of now, there's no telling what the model will look like, but there's a chance it could debut as either a sedan or crossover. Regardless of its final design, we look forward to its future arrival at Elite Automotive Group.
