We invite the Springfield community to come together on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Drury University’s Findlay Student Center to take part in this year’s JDRF One Walk, a charity event for type 1 diabetes. This special 5K walk aims to increase awareness for type 1 diabetes and raise funds for research that will help those affected by the disease and one day lead to a cure.
Residents from all throughout Springfield have already begun to register for this year’s JDRF One Walk 5K and we’re encouraging the remainder of the community to jump on board. You can easily create a new team, join an existing team or sign up as an individual participant online today. Check-in on the day of the event begins at 8:30 a.m. and the official walk starts at 10 a.m.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that affects millions of people across the world. It stops your pancreas from producing insulin, a hormone that is needed to turn food into energy. Due to this, those affected by the disease are forced to monitor their blood sugar levels and inject insulin as needed on a regular basis. Eating habits and activities also have to be closely monitored to avoid changes in blood-sugar level.
To aid those suffering from type 1 diabetes and raise money for life-changing research, please participate in this year’s JDRF One Walk. Your support makes a difference.
