Winward Racing and Mercedes-AMG recently announced an impressive accomplishment by combining forces, which is that they are now leading in IMSA GTD standings after a recent Sebring Race victory! This accomplishment showcases the best that both Winward and Mercedes have to offer in the automotive world.

What's the Achievement?

The victory announced by Mercedes and Winward is a big deal in many regards. For starters, it means that reigning titlists for Mercedes and Winward took a lead early in the season, setting a promising outlook for the rest of the racing season to come. Together, they scored a recent victory in the 73rd Mobile 1 12-hours of Sebring, which they took on with steam using the powerful duo of No. 57 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 team along with experienced and exceptional team drivers: Philip Ellis, Russell Ward, and Indy Dontje. With this winning combination of vehicles and drivers, Mercedes managed to achieve a victory once again in racing, which ultimately allowed it to repeat its opportunity for a title.

Behind the Scenes

The race in question included several top-notch and experienced Mercedes drivers. Philip Ellis notes that looking back on previous performances that left him less than satisfied, he wasted “no time” charging towards the front of the lineup in the IMSA 12-hour race. He assumed the leading position in less than 15 minutes and went on to keep the lead for the rest of the race! Out of the total number of 327 laps in the race, Ellis and his fellow racing crew members led an impressive number of 67 laps. Only once during the race did Ellis and his racing crew drop out of the lead position, which is an impressive accomplishment!

Ellis, who is part of the No. 57 racing squad, also shares the team's claim to fame for several other prominent races as well. The team also put in a respectable performance at Daytona, which is one of the world's most prestigious car races. With all these accomplishments under their belt, it's no surprise that the Mercedes team is now set to compete in the Grand Prix of Long Beach, which is also a renowned car race. They will be competing on the Long Beach street circuit, and of special note is that this is the race's 50th anniversary. Ellis, along with other racing team members, say that they have high hopes for their upcoming races.
