For work and business needs, consumers have many options for vehicles to drive. However, the Sprinter van from Mercedes-Benz is one of the few that combines a practical work design with comfort and style. The year 2025 is a special year for the Sprinter van, which celebrates its 30th year in production.

History of the Sprinter Van

The Sprinter van debuted in 1995. Since its launch, the Sprinter van has stood out for its quality build, innovative design, and various optional configurations. The Sprinter van belongs to the category of light commercial vehicles, and it has shaped that class of vehicles since it first hit the road. The Sprinter van originated in Germany. It replaced a previous and very similar model called the T1/TN series. The Sprinter retained its predecessor’s basic design but had a facelift and engineering overhaul to look and function even better than the outgoing model. The first Sprinter van was produced in multiple configurations, including a flatbed, chassis, and tipper design. All options were available as a crew or single cab, and customers could choose between a five-seat and a nine-seat interior seating configuration.

Notable Updates

Although it has been a popular vehicle since its launch, the Sprinter van has received some notable updates over the years to make it even more appealing. In 2000, Mercedes-Benz updated the safety technology on all its Sprinter vans. From that year on, all Sprinters had standard airbags for the driver and optional front passenger airbags. Starting in 2000, Mercedes-Benz offered window airbags as well, along with a traction control system. Two years later, Mercedes-Benz also made an Electronic Stability Program optional for the Sprinter. Mercedes-Benz added crosswinds driving assist technology in 2008, and by 2018 its vans had active driving assist features and voice control technology. Mercedes-Benz was also the first to add a user experience system to its commercial van, and it has also made the Sprinter more efficient over the years. In 2019, Mercedes-Benz introduced an electric Sprinter van to European markets.

The Sprinter Makes History

To commemorate the Sprinter’s history, Mercedes-Benz is hosting a special presentation about the van at the Mercedes-Benz Museum located in Stuttgart, Germany, through March 30, 2025. Along with viewing Sprinter vans over the years, the museum will also feature special Sprinter merchandise at its store.
