Over the past few months, rumors have suggested that Mercedes-Benz is planning on developing an electric car, and just recently, we received new updates stating that an all-electric SUV could be on the way. Reports claim the all-new model will be based off the newly introduced Mercedes-Benz GLC and be renamed the Mercedes-Benz ELC.
With the crossover market booming and more buyers looking toward fuel-efficient vehicles, it would be a smart move for Mercedes-Benz to build a new all-electric SUV. According to German automotive source Autobild, the model is likely to only share the GLC's window and roof design, with the remainder of the crossover donning completely unique exterior elements. In addition to this tidbit, it's being said that the SUV could pack over 500 horsepower and offer a 248-mile driving range through the use of two electric motors and a flat battery pack. It could also be the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to utilize a wireless charging system, which would be another huge step for the company.
Right now, all rumors surrounding this potential SUV are just that, rumors. Mercedes-Benz has not made any official announcement regarding these new claims, but if we're lucky, we might receive positive news in the near future.
