It was just recently that we announced the arrival of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe for 2016 and now we have word that a fuel cell model based on the GLC is set to debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The first of its kind in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the fuel cell vehicle will go head to head against some of the industry's most prominent new fuel cell models featured on the market today.

News about the new fuel cell car came right from Mercedes-Benz's research and development guru, Thomas Weber. In an interview with Autocar, he revealed that the vehicle will be called the GLC F-Cell, have a combined fuel cell and battery range of around 373 miles, and maintain the ability to refuel its hydrogen tanks in just three minutes. Additionally, Weber said that the car is likely to land in select markets by 2018; and when it does, buyers will be able to lease the vehicle or obtain it through a purchase program.

Although earlier fuel cell prototypes created by Mercedes-Benz were based on the B-Class, the automaker decided the upcoming fuel cell model was better suited for one of its higher classes.
