As electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, automakers are taking steps to improve their vehicles along with charging infrastructure. Mercedes-Benz has announced a new fast-charging system that sets standards for public charge stations. Mercedes-Benz’ technology features ultra-fast charging speeds and improved efficiency. Mercedes-Benz is partnering with Alpitronic to bring this revolutionary new charging technology to EV consumers.
About Mercedes’ New Charging Technology
The new charging system that Mercedes is launching is called the HYC1000. This system features an external charging unit that sends power to multiple charging units simultaneously. The central power hubs allow for power to be adjusted at specific charging points, which include the total volume of power that each charging point receives and the number of charging stations that get power. Drivers will benefit from fast charging rates, as maximum power from a single charging station can reach up to 600 kW at a total of 800 volts. The result is faster charging times. The Mercedes-Benz CLA, for instance, is an EV from Mercedes, and it can charge at a rate of 325 kilometers in 10 minutes.
Although Mercedes is launching its new HYC1000 system worldwide, there will be some variation in the technology based on country and region. In the US and throughout North America, for instance, Mercedes will use NACS and CCS cables for its chargers. Those cables allow for high-performance charging stations that allow EV drivers to recharge their vehicles as fast as cars can refill with gasoline. Mercedes-Benz currently has over 40 charging stations operating in the US, and it has 40 more distributed across Austria, Germany, and Japan. By 2030, Mercedes aims to have over 10,000 charging stations installed globally.
Benefits of Mercedes Charging Stations
As with other automakers that have their own charging technology, Mercedes EV owners will enjoy exclusive perks and benefits at Mercedes charging stations. Mercedes-Benz EV drivers in North America, China, and Europe will get digital access to the company’s charging stations for convenient information like charging station fees and navigation to practical charging stations on their driving routes. Drivers can also reserve spots at charging stations using the Mercedes Navigation with Electric Intelligence system.
Mercedes-Benz Electric Vehicles
Along with its new power charging technology, Mercedes also has an enticing line of electric vehicles. Its electric SUV lineup includes the efficient and versatile EQE SUV and the larger EQB and EQS SUVs. For EV sedans, Mercedes offers the EQS and EQE.
